Veteran coach Abdul Karim Zito has safely arrived in Kumasi as he prepares to take over the vacant head coach position at Asante Kotoko, following the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum.
The experienced gaffer, who has been at the helm of Dreams FC, is reportedly set to step in as Kotoko’s new boss after a crucial meeting by the club’s Interim Management Committee resulted in Ogum’s sacking. The decision to part ways with the former head coach is largely attributed to a dip in form and underwhelming results this season.
Zito, who is no stranger to the Porcupine Warriors, returns to familiar grounds. He previously featured for the club as a player and was part of the historic squad that won the 1983 CAF Champions League. He also served in a coaching capacity at the club in years past.
Prosper Narteh Ogum, who led Kotoko to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title during his first tenure, leaves with a legacy marked by both triumph and turbulence. While his initial stint ended a long title drought for the club, his second spell failed to replicate that success.
Under Ogum this season, Kotoko managed 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses in 28 league matches—scoring 28 goals and conceding 21, with an average points-per-game of 1.68. Recent defeats to Accra Lions and Nations FC only added to growing concerns over the team’s lack of consistency.
In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude to Ogum for his service and dedication, and wished him well in his future career.
