Asante Kotoko and Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum have finally parted ways, ending an emotional and dramatic chapter in the history of one of Ghana’s most legendary football clubs.
Ogum, one of the highly regarded men admired for his strategic acumen and composed demeanor, leaves at a time when the Porcupine Warriors have slumped in the Ghana Premier League.
His departure follows a string of poor performances, including successive losses to Accra Lions and Nations FC – results that suspended the club’s title hopes on a thread.
Despite the recent losses, Ogum’s legacy is still intact. He guided Kotoko to a traditional league win in the 2021/22 season during his first tenure – a season that brought back memories of the club’s golden years and instilled hope in the fans for a sustainable future.
His return in 2024 was also welcomed with a lot of anticipation, but trouble on and off the pitch ensured the team never reached those same levels again.
In 28 league games this season, Kotoko had 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 defeats. Inconsistency had eventually paid its price, and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) felt a change of tack was needed prior to the crucial MTN FA Cup semi-final tie against Berekum Chelsea.
Ogum’s departure is bittersweet. Even if recent performances infuriated the Red Army faithful, his impact on the development of players, discipline, and club structure cannot be overstated.
