A devastating road accident on the night of Wednesday, April 16, 2025, has claimed the lives of three teenagers at Assin Asempanaye in the Central Region.
The tragedy unfolded when a KIA Granbird bus, registered GT 5727-20 and traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi with 42 passengers on board, collided with an unregistered Royal motorbike carrying the victims.
The motorbike was being operated by 16-year-old Wisdom Anane, with two others—Philip Agborka, 16, and Philip Tetteh, 17—riding as passengers.

According to preliminary findings from the Central North Regional Police MTTD, the bus driver, 50-year-old Akwasi Adjei, failed to drive with appropriate caution.
The accident occurred near the Assin Kushea junction on the Cape Coast–Kumasi highway, where the teenagers were navigating a curve.
The violent impact dragged the motorbike and its riders under the bus for nearly 120 meters before the vehicle came to a complete stop.
All three victims suffered life-threatening injuries and were immediately rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu. Sadly, they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their remains have been placed in the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police have impounded both the bus and the severely damaged motorbike at the Assin Praso Police Station to support ongoing investigations. Driver Akwasi Adjei is in custody and assisting with investigation.
The Ghana Police Service is once again appealing to all drivers to be extremely careful on the roads to prevent such heartbreaking losses.
