A 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate has been gruesomely killed by a 17-year-old wielding a machete during a violent confrontation at Akwapem Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

According to reports, the two boys, who used to be close friends, got into a serious fight over GHC10.00. What started as an argument quickly turned violent and ended in a deadly attack.

An eyewitness recounted, “The suspect confronted me and slapped me, asking why I had earlier assaulted one of his group members over the GHC10. I informed my friend, the deceased, about the encounter.”

“He suggested we confront the suspect. Sadly, the suspect showed up wielding a machete and, amidst the noise of an approaching taxi, attacked my friend, striking his shoulder. I had no choice but to flee.”

The wounded boy was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe bleeding and multiple wounds to the head and shoulder.

The community has been left in shock, with many residents condemning the violent behaviour that is becoming increasingly common among some youth. They have described the incident as needless and deeply troubling.

The bereaved family is currently in mourning and has called for swift justice.

In the meantime, the police have taken three individuals into custody: the primary suspect, the owner of the weapon used, and an alleged accomplice. Investigations are currently underway, and legal proceedings are expected to follow.
