Former General Secretary of the Peopleโ€™s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has laid blame for the New Patriotic Partyโ€™s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections squarely at the feet of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, 8 May, Atik claimed that the former presidentโ€™s actions and decisions significantly contributed to the partyโ€™s electoral misfortunes.

Referencing a recent memo by Kwabena Adu Boabenhene, Atik suggested that the former president may have prioritised national stability over party loyalty by indirectly empowering the opposition.

โ€œIf Kwabena Adu Boabenheneโ€™s memo is any indication, it implies Nana Addo was superintending over the empowerment of the opposition ostensibly to ensure stability,โ€ he wrote.

He also criticised the former president for allegedly shifting blame onto party candidates, particularly through religious insinuations.

โ€œAnd yet, [he] turns around to accuse candidates of losing because of religion,โ€ Atik lamented, implying that such commentary was not only divisive but hypocritical given the presidentโ€™s own influence over the electionโ€™s outcome.

Concluding his post, Atik Mohammed urged Ghanaians to critically assess the role of leadership in political outcomes.

โ€œLike I always say, Nana Addo is the main reason for the defeat of the NPP. If you are looking for what caused the NPPโ€™s humiliation in 2024, look no further than Nana Addo. We read, we watch and we judge,โ€ he stated.
