A devastating accident at Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi, has claimed the life of Mr. Isaac Bonaray, popularly known as Ike Bonaray, the Chairman of the Aowin Municipal Football Association (MFA), a respected morning show host at Max FM, and a member of the Executive Council of the Western Regional Football Association (WRFA).
The gory incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, when a timber-loaded trailer traveling from Tanokrom toward Fijai lost control and crashed into a passenger minibus (commonly known as Trotro) that was heading from Takoradi to Kojokrom.
According to the driver of the Trotro, Mr. Nkansah Kyerematen, the situation turned tragic in seconds.
“As we approached the Tanokrom Pipeano traffic light, I noticed the trailer reversing uncontrollably in our direction.
I tried swerving, and in the process, hit a car behind me. Before I knew it, the trailer rammed into us. My mate managed to remove the door, and the passengers started escaping. It was later that bystanders told me one of the passengers was run over by the trailer while attempting to exit.”

Emergency services were quickly alerted, and Connect FM’s Paa Kwesi Simpson, who arrived at the scene shortly after, contacted the Ghana National Fire Service. The fire crew helped tow the truck, and with assistance from the police, the deceased was retrieved.

His lifeless body has since been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Morgue by officers from the Sekondi-Takoradi Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
The news of Ike Bonaray’s sudden and tragic demise has sent shockwaves through the sports and media fraternity in the Western North Region, where he was widely known for his passionate contributions to grassroots football and his powerful voice on the airwaves.

Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues, football administrators, and listeners who describe him as a dedicated, humble, and energetic personality whose absence will be deeply felt.
May his soul rest in peace.
