The Bibiani GoldStars Football Club family, led by Chief Executive Officer, John Akwasi Adu, today, April 5, joined hundreds of mourners at Heroes Park, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, to pay their final respects to their former Head Coach, the late Michael Osei.

The funeral ceremony, marked with solemn tributes and heartfelt memories, brought together supporters, players, technical staff, management, and football enthusiasts from across Ghana.

The entire GoldStars delegation was present to honour the man who played an instrumental role in the club’s rise in Ghanaian football.

Michael Osei, who passed away on November 15, 2024, in London after battling a heart-related illness, served as the head coach of Bibiani GoldStars from their debut Premier League season in 2021 until 2024.

His leadership and tactical acumen left a lasting legacy, most notably guiding the team to an unprecedented fifth-place finish in the 2022/23 season — the highest in the club’s history.

In a statement during the funeral, CEO, John Akwasi Adu said, “Coach Osei was more than a tactician — he was a friend, a leader, and a father figure to many within the team. His time with us laid a strong foundation for the club, and we are forever grateful for his contribution to the Miners’ story.”

Known for his calm demeanor and deep knowledge of the game, Michael Osei’s coaching journey began in Germany after retiring from an illustrious playing career that included stints with Asante Kotoko and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Upon his return to Ghana, he took up roles with clubs such as New Edubiase, Liberty Professionals, and Asante Kotoko before making history with Bibiani GoldStars.

Today’s final rites highlighted his love for the game, his humility, and the strong relationships he built within the football community.

Several GoldStars players who worked under him shared touching stories of how his mentorship shaped their careers and lives.
