Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, has renewed the governmentโs commitment to supporting local recyclers as a catalyst for industrial growth, job creation, and increased exports.
This assurance came during a working visit to Recyclers Ghana Limited, an industrial recycling firm located in Shai Hills within the Shai-Osudoku District.
The visit formed part of the Ministryโs broader strategy to engage key players in the manufacturing and export sectors, understand their challenges, and explore ways government can provide targeted support.
The companyโs manager, Mr. Manesh Kumar Jangir, walked the Deputy Minister through the plantโs operations and growth since its establishment in 2019.
Recyclers Ghana Limited, specializes in refining and exporting lead, plastic chips, granules, and custom aluminium alloy products to markets in Europe, Asia, Turkey, and the United States.
Significantly, the company supplies bespoke aluminium alloys to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan. With an annual recycling capacity of over 28,000 metric tonnes, the company contributes to Ghanaโs foreign exchange earnings and the value-added export sector.
Despite its achievements, Mr. Jangir raised concerns about limited access to scrap aluminiumโa challenge he attributed to stiff competition from exporters of raw scrap metal.
He called for policy interventions to help domestic recyclers secure a steady supply of raw materials, ensuring optimal plant operations and meeting rising international demand.
During the tour, Sampson Ahi commended the companyโs dedication to sustainable industrial practices and its alignment with Ghanaโs circular economy vision.
He inspected the plantโs lead, plastic, and aluminium processing lines and praised the companyโs role in job creation and economic development.
โRecyclers like this play a crucial role in reducing environmental waste while creating meaningful jobs, especially for young people,โ Ahi noted. โTheir contribution to foreign exchange earnings is also critical to stabilizing the cedi and boosting our economic resilience.โ
He emphasized that with the right policy support, the recycling industry could expand significantly, curbing youth unemployment and discouraging irregular migration by offering viable livelihoods locally.
As part of the visit, the Deputy Minister planted a tree on the companyโs premises to symbolize the government’s ongoing commitment to reforestation and climate sustainability efforts.
Recyclers Ghana Limited management expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a strong endorsement of public-private collaboration and a sign of governmentโs readiness to work hand-in-hand with local industry players to unlock the full potential of Ghanaโs industrial sector.
