Dr. Tony Tsina Addai, an expert in Strategic Leadership and President of the Western North Development Association (WENDA Ghana), has issued an open letter to the leaders of the Western North Region, urging them to embrace visionary and coordinated leadership to drive sustainable development.
According to Dr. Addai, the creation of the Western North Region in 2019 was a landmark achievement made possible through the tireless advocacy of WENDA and other development-oriented groups.
Established in 2004, WENDA Ghana was the pioneering association that spearheaded the campaign for the region’s creation. The association mobilized support, engaged stakeholders at the grassroots and national levels, and consistently lobbied government until the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership endorsed the idea, leading to the eventual establishment of the region.
“WENDA played a catalytic role in rallying chiefs, opinion leaders, professionals, and youth from all corners of the region under one umbrella with a shared vision: the recognition and creation of Western North as a standalone region,” Dr. Addai emphasized.
However, he expressed concern over the proliferation of development groups in the region today, noting that their growing presence highlights gaps in the execution of leadership mandates.
“If our elected and traditional leaders are effectively executing their duties, why do we have so many groups springing up to fill perceived gaps in development?” he questioned.
Dr. Addai highlighted the critical roles expected from Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Assembly Members, Queen Mothers, Chiefs, and Paramount Chiefs in addressing the region’s needs.
He underscored that effective leadership requires vision, coordination, and tangible outcomes, all of which must be prioritized to avoid a disconnect between leaders and the people.
In his recommendations, he called on leaders to:
- Articulate a Clear Vision by developing and communicating a comprehensive strategic plan that outlines developmental goals, priorities, and timelines.
- Foster Inclusive Collaboration by engaging civil society, traditional authorities, and community members in planning and implementation.
- Enhance Transparency and Accountability through mechanisms for regular reporting and public feedback.
- Strengthen Institutional Capacity by investing in local governance structures for effective management and sustainability of development initiatives.
Dr. Addai further reminded citizens of their critical role in regional progress, emphasizing that active civic engagement, informed discourse, and constructive feedback are vital in holding leaders accountable.
“The future of Western North hinges on our collective commitment to effective leadership and collaborative development. Let us realign our strategies, reaffirm our responsibilities, and work together towards a prosperous and unified region,” he concluded.
Dr. Tony Tsina Addai holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (Distinction) and has extensive expertise in Strategic Leadership. As President of WENDA Ghana, he remains a key advocate for the region’s development.
