The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted recent claims by Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) suggesting the companyโ€™s mandate has been expanded to cover revenue assurance in Ghanaโ€™s upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors.

In a statement released to the media on Wednesday, 14th May 2025, the GRA described the reports published in some online portals and print outlets including Business and Financial Times and Graphic Online as inaccurate.

โ€œThe Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has noted with concern reportsโ€ฆ claiming that Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) has unveiled an expansion of its revenue assurance oversight to cover Ghanaโ€™s upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors,โ€ the statement read.

The Authority clarified that it has not approved any such expansion and that SML remains suspended from those operations.

โ€œGRA wishes to clarify that the Authorityโ€™s suspension of SMLโ€™s services in the upstream petroleum and mineral sectors pending further review issued in April 2024, remains in force,โ€ it said.

It further stated that, โ€œGRA has not instructed SML to activate nor resume operations under the 2023 Consolidation of Revenue Assurance Services Contract covering those sectors.โ€

The GRA reassured industry stakeholders and the general public of its commitment to managing the countryโ€™s revenue systems transparently.

โ€œThe Authority wishes to assure stakeholders in the aforementioned sectors and the general public of its unwavering commitment to protect the nation’s revenue with integrity and transparency,โ€ the statement concluded.
