The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, has issued a strong warning to the general public following reports of fraudulent activities being perpetrated in his name on social media, particularly on Facebook.
According to Petty Brentum, his attention has been drawn to the creation of fake Facebook accounts bearing his name, through which unsuspecting individuals are being deceived and scammed with false promises of recruitment into security services.
“These criminals are falsely claiming that I can facilitate entry into the security services, using my name and image to extort money from innocent people,” he said in an official statement.
The Minister stressed that he has no involvement whatsoever in any security service recruitment processes and categorically denied operating any private Facebook account used for personal chats or job-related communications.
“I operate only one official Facebook page – Wilbert Petty Brentum – which is used strictly for sharing updates about my work as Regional Minister. I do not conduct private conversations or recruitment offers through Facebook or any other social media platform,” he emphasized.
Wilbert Petty Brentum urged the public to be vigilant and report any impersonators who reach out under his name claiming to offer recruitment opportunities. “These individuals are nothing but scammers and fraudsters,” he stated.
He also made it clear that anyone who falls victim to these scams does so at their own risk, and encouraged Ghanaians to help fight such crimes by spreading awareness and reporting suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
In a final note, the Minister issued a direct warning to the perpetrators, urging them to desist immediately.
“I am working closely with the security services to track and prosecute anyone found engaging in these fraudulent activities. I advise them to rather channel their skills into meaningful and lawful ventures that contribute to national development,” he concluded.
