Former Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai and a national member of Kennedy Agyapongโs campaign team, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, has attributed the New Patriotic Partyโs (NPP) defeat in the recent Akwatia by-election to what he described as the ineptitude of the partyโs national leadership.
In a one-on-one interview with Kaakyire Addae Mununkum, host of Okyeame Radioโs morning show, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu dismissed claims suggesting that the people of Akwatia had voted against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He argued that the by-election defeat was not a reflection of the constituentsโ rejection of the party but rather a result of the failure of the NPPโs national executives to prioritize the collective interests of party members.
Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu stressed that the leadershipโs decisions appeared to serve individual agendas rather than the broader welfare of the party, which, in his view, has eroded trust and confidence among supporters at the grassroots level.
He warned that if the current leadership maintains its top-down approach, the NPP risks losing the 2028 elections, which could breed widespread disillusionment among its supporters.
Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu further questioned the motives behind withholding the full findings of the committee report on the partyโs defeat in the 2024 general elections, stressing that transparency is critical for rebuilding trust.
Expressing his displeasure over internal party dynamics, He lamented the sidelining of former President John Agyekum Kufuor in important decision-making processes.
According to him, even those who are occasionally invited to leadership meetings are often heckled when they attempt to share ideas.
He therefore called on the NPP leadership to prioritize unity, inclusivity, and the partyโs long-term survival over personal interests.
