The Railway Workers Union has threatened to halt all operations beginning Tuesday, May 13, 2025, if the Ghana Railway Company Limited fails to pay the outstanding salaries of over 900 staff members.

The workers say they have gone without pay for the past seven months, leaving many in financial distress and demanding urgent action.

The union claims the state-owned company has faced persistent challenges since the change in government, worsening their financial situation.

Speaking to Citi News, Franklin Cobbinah, the Branch Secretary of the Accra division, described the situation as dire and called for immediate government intervention.

“For the past seven months, we have not been paid. Anytime you ask, nobody is willing to volunteer information to you.

“We have tried to calm the workers down. Now, we can’t control them anymore. So, as workers, we are demanding our seven months’ salary from our management,” he stated.

The threatened strike is expected to disrupt passenger traffic between Tema and Accra, affecting thousands of daily commuters.
