The Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, Kofi Benteh Afful, in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive, Dominic Gyasi, on Saturday, October 4, led a massive clean-up exercise to mark this monthโs National Sanitation Day.
The exercise spanned several key areas, including the forecourt of the Dwinase Melcom, the main market center, the principal streets of Dwinase, and the stretch leading to the Education Office.
The exercise, which sought to promote cleanliness, proper sanitation, and good hygiene practices within the municipality, recorded an impressive turnout from both institutions and community members.
It attracted participants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Sefwi Wiawso Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School, the Municipal Police Command, staff of the Municipal Assembly and residents.

These groups worked collaboratively to desilt drains, sweep streets, and clear refuse that had accumulated in key locations. Their active involvement not only contributed to restoring cleanliness but also demonstrated a strong sense of community ownership and responsibility toward maintaining a healthy environment.

Addressing the media after the exercise, the Member of Parliament, Kofi Benteh Afful, commended residents for their unity and strong civic spirit.
He expressed appreciation to all who took part in the exercise and described their participation as a clear demonstration of community cooperation and shared responsibility.
โI am deeply encouraged by the overwhelming turnout and active participation of traders, youth groups, assembly members, and market women who worked together to make this exercise a success,โ he said.

โThis communal spirit strengthens our development agenda and reminds us that keeping our environment clean is a shared responsibility. Let us continue this momentum beyond National Sanitation Day.โ
He further urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than a once-a-month activity, stressing that a clean environment leads to good health and contributes to the overall development of the constituency.

On his part, the MCE for Sefwi Wiawso, Dominic Gyasi, lauded the collaboration between the Assembly, the Office of the MP, and other local institutions.
โIt was a great honour to join hands with our MP in this important exercise. The level of cooperation we witnessed shows that together, we can make Sefwi Wiawso cleaner and healthier,โ he noted.

He disclosed that the Assembly will soon introduce penalties for sanitation offenders, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment across the regional capital.
He called for continuous public education and community involvement to sustain the gains made through the National Sanitation Day initiative.
