Cocoa farmers in the Western North Region are set to hit the streets on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in protest against the recent reduction in cocoa prices.

The demonstration, spearheaded by the Forum for Accountability and Development of Sefwi (FADOS), follows a drop in the producer price of cocoa from GHยข3,625 to GHยข2,587 โ€” a development farmers say is severely affecting their livelihoods.

The Public Relations Officer of FADOS, Nsiah Mathew, has dismissed reports that the planned protest has been called off, insisting that preparations are complete and the demonstration will proceed as scheduled.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Anim Yirenkyi on Winners FM, Mr. Nsiah described the rumours of cancellation as false and misleading.

โ€œIt is never true that we have called off the demonstration. The protest is coming on tomorrow, and we are fully prepared,โ€ he stated.

According to him, FADOS has put in place adequate measures to ensure a smooth and well-organized protest. He revealed that transportation has been arranged for farmers travelling from distant communities to converge at Sefwi Dwinase.

โ€œFor those who are far, cars are ready to pick them and bring them to Sefwi Dwinase. Everything is set for the demonstration,โ€ he added.

The protest is expected to attract cocoa farmers, stakeholders, and concerned residents across the region who argue that the price cut has placed a heavy financial burden on farming households.

FADOS maintains that the demonstration is intended to draw national attention to the plight of cocoa farmers and to push for urgent intervention from the appropriate authorities.

More updates will follow as the demonstration unfolds.
