A tragic incident has rocked the community of Karlo in the Suaman District of the Western North Region, where a 23-year-old mother has been arrested for allegedly throwing her four-year-old son into a well, leading to his untimely death.
The suspect, identified as Akua Afriyie, is currently in police custody at Dadieso as investigations continue.
Confirming the incident to the media, the Assembly Member for the Karlo Electoral Area, Mr. Eric Armah, said he received a distress call about a child who had fallen into a well.
Upon arriving at the scene with some community members, they found the lifeless body of the young boy submerged in the well.
“We rushed to the scene after the call, only to find the boy already dead in the water. It was a heartbreaking moment for all of us,” Mr. Armah stated.
The community members promptly reported the incident to the police. Coincidentally, while at the police station, a young woman, later identified as the deceased boy’s mother, arrived to file a report that her child had fallen into a well.
However, following initial investigations and eyewitness accounts, it emerged that the mother may have deliberately thrown her son into the well.
Although she initially claimed it was an accident, suspicions grew after conflicting statements and witness reports.
Mr. Armah disclosed that the suspect was arrested after it was suspected she had intentionally committed the act.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
