EC limited voter registration was successful but stressful- Bia West NDC Youth Organizer

The Bia West Constituency Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hassan Mohammed Adams, has expressed that the limited voter registration conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) was challenging but ultimately achieved success.

During a conversation with Sir Joe of Sefwinews.com, Hassan emphasized the considerable size of the Bia West Constituency, where navigating from one community to another could span up to 80 kilometers.

He said this vast geographical expanse created significant difficulties and discomfort for young individuals aspiring to register.

He also noted a substantial issue at the EC office in Sefwi Essam, where an overwhelming number of registrants had gathered. This influx of people placed undue pressure on the registration officers, who had to attend to approximately 300 individuals daily.

Hassan further elaborated on the slow registration process, which led to many young people being unable to obtain their ID cards.

He said the sluggish pace was partly attributed to the EC officers’ reluctance to adopt the offline system proposed by the agents. As a result, several registrants who initially visited the office either returned to complete the process or, in some cases, failed to return at all.

Hassan Mohammed Adams characterized the overall process as a success but urged the EC to reconsider its decision to hold such a critical registration event at its offices.

He proposed that conducting the exercise in Electoral Areas would make it more accessible for people from various communities, thus reducing the stress and challenges associated with registration.

However, Hassan commended the NDC’s Bia West Parliamentary candidate, Mustapha Amadu Tanko, for offering support during this challenging registration period.

According to him, Mustapha provided tents and chairs for the numerous registrants, along with refreshments for vulnerable individuals and those with special needs.

Hassan Mohammed Adams added that Mustapha Amadu Tanko also ensured that all necessary logistical support was in place for the registration exercise.

Hassan also expressed gratitude to the constituency chairman and his executives for their commendable efforts.
