Churches should help solve basic societal problems – Kyidomhene

Nana Elluo Panyin III, the Kyidomhene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, has called on churches to actively contribute to resolving basic societal problems, emphasizing the importance of community-focused initiatives.

Speaking on the Faith FM morning show, hosted by Nana Yaw Adinkrah ‘Fire 4 Fire,’ Nana Elluo Payin III highlighted the need for churches to address pressing issues such as the overcrowded educational system in the Sefwi Dwinase community.

The Kyidomhene specifically pointed to the challenges faced by the Methodist Primary and Junior High School in Sefwi Dwinase, where the current shift system has led to children engaging in activities like working at washing bays and serving as kayayes during their off-school hours.

Nana Elluo Payin III urged churches to play a role in eliminating the shift system by contributing to the construction of additional school blocks.

Nana acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Methodist Church in the past, citing an example of the church’s contribution to resolving similar issues.

He emphasized that other churches should follow suit and prioritize addressing the basic needs of the community before focusing on internal expansion projects.

While recognizing the necessity for churches to accommodate their growing congregations, Nana Elluo Payin cautioned against neglecting the immediate needs of the community.

He stressed the importance of balancing church expansion with a commitment to addressing societal challenges.

“Some churches are having extra buildings to accommodate congregants, which is not bad, but should see the basic needs in the community first before any others,” Nana Elluo Panyin remarked during the interview.

Nana Elluo Panyin III framed his appeal as a call for churches to exhibit good Christian behaviour, drawing parallels with the practices of churches in the olden days.

He stated that contributing to community development is an integral part of being a responsible and compassionate Christian.
