Agriculture Director urges youth to embrace lucrative farming opportunities (Audio)

The Municipal Director of Agriculture in Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai, Samuel Afari, has emphasized the potential profitability of farming and urged the youth to explore this promising avenue.

The director made these remarks during the Farmers Day celebration held at Domenibo Nō2 in the Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

Speaking to Okyeame Radio’s Agorohene at the event, Samuel Afari emphasized the significant economic opportunities that agriculture holds for the younger generation.

He highlighted the profitability of farming, underlining its potential to not only sustain livelihoods but also contribute substantially to the local and national economy.

In a revealing moment, Bismark Arthur, recognized as the overall best farmer in the municipality, echoed the sentiments of Samuel Afari.

Arthur emphasized the financial challenges associated with farming, acknowledging that without adequate financial resources, engaging in agriculture can be a daunting task.

His insights shed light on the importance of addressing financial barriers to encourage more youth participation in the agricultural sector.

Adding weight to the discourse, Nana Kwadwo Somiah II, the Abakomahene of Anhwiaso Traditional Area, who chaired the Farmers Day celebration, expressed his concerns about the environmental impact of illegal mining, known as ‘galamsey.’

Nana Kwadwo Somiah II who doubles as Chief of Sefwi Ntakam called on both traditional leaders and the government to collaborate on devising effective plans to combat the menace of galamsey and protect the region’s natural resources.

In his closing remarks, Nana Somiah reiterated the need for the youth to actively involve themselves in farming.

He stressed that agriculture not only offers a path to financial stability but also plays a crucial role in ensuring food security and sustainable development for the community.
