Western North Regional Agric Director, Henry Fordjour, has stated that agriculture is of great or critical importance in the development of this country.
He said success in the agricultural sector is key to opening up opportunities in other sectors of the economy, thus transport, marketing, health, and others.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Western North Region’s farmers day celebration held at Sefwi Asawinso SHS in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality under the theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition”, he noted that it’s necessary for the government to provide incentives to farmers.
Henry Fordjour said the most effective mechanism to improve the lives of millions in poverty is to support agricultural activities.
He further indicated that transforming a countryside agricultural sector can create jobs, raise income, dwindle malnutrition and keep the economy on a path to middle-income growth.

On his part, Hon Richard Ebba Obeng, Western North Regional Minister, also urged farmers to intermittently involve Agric Extension officers in their farming activities for education on the better farming procedure.
Nana Yaw Barima Donkor, the Western North Regional overall best farmer from Yawmatwa in the Bia West District, who received a brand new double carbine pickup, thanked the authorities for their contribution and support while entreating the youth to get involved in farming because it’s very lucrative.
Adelaide Yankyeara, who won best regional woman farmer, also spoke on how she has employed labours and involved the Agric Extension officers in its daily farming activities.
