Audio: Boy 16, drowns in Sefwi Besibema

A 16-year-old boy identified as Eric Osei Bonsu has drowned in river Pro at Sefwi Besibema, a farming community in the Akontombra District of the Western North region.

The incident happened early hours of Sunday, May 30, whilst the deceased was said to have gone for swimming.

In an interview with the deceased father, Mr Eric Arthur, he said “He (the deceased) left the house around 9:30 am whilst I was in the house, later in the day, I was informed by my wife that my son has drowned which I quickly reached to the scene,”

“I tried to rescue my son but could not do so, according to the report they said he was swimming with a friend when this unfortunate incident happened,”

The Assembly Member of Nkwadum Electoral Area, Hon Isaac Entie, stated that he has warned the children on several occasions not to go near the river but always turned death ears to his call.

Meanwhile, Sefwi Akontombra Police has started an investigation leading to the unfortunate death, and the body has been deposited at the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality Government hospital morgue for an autopsy report.
