Audio: Chief bans illegal chainsaw operators from invading the Forest Reserve

Sefwi Kwasare, a farming community in the Bia East District of the Western North Region, has banned illegal chainsaw operators from invading the forest reserve.

This gesture follows a declaration by the President of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, stating that he will cause the arrest of any chief in his cabinet found to be engaged in illegal logging in the forest reserves.

Speaking to the Chief of Sefwi Kwasare, Nana Yaw Krah III, he said this exercise corresponds to the earlier instruction from the Traditional Council to all chiefs to declare war on illegal chainsaw operators to help protect the forest reserves for the future.

According to him, the rate at which the trees are been fell by the chainsaw operators would prevent our future generations not being able to identify the various trees in the forest such as Wawa, Odum, Ɔframo, and others.

He lamented that the school children only know the trees in their various textbooks but have not seen them before.

Meanwhile, Nana Yaw Krah III has advised the youth, especially those using motorbikes, to be extra careful when riding on the ongoing construction of Kwasare road “because just recently, a man met his untimely death in an uncovered bridge.”
