Audio: Road Safety, MTTD educate drivers to ensure accident-free Christmas

The Western North branch of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), have embarked on an educational campaign to sensitise drivers to ensure accident-free Christmas.

The team visited the Sefwi Wiawso branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at the lorry terminal in Sefwi Dwenase.

Speaking at the meeting, Regional MTTD Commander, ASP Juliana Forson, said the exercise conducted by the joint law enforcement agencies was part of their usual coordinated routine.

She spoke to the commercial drivers at the terminal on safety practices and the need for them to exercise discipline on the road.

She further entreated the drivers to be mindful of their safety and that of other road users by respecting road signs, avoiding overspeeding, overloading and also inappropriate maneuvering among other practices.

ASP Juliana Forson urges the drivers to use their lights always during this fog season to avoid crashes.

On his part, the Western North regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority, Mr. Victor Bilson, said over 58 people have died from roads accident for the past 11 months within the region.

He, therefore, urges motorists to always drive at lower speed limits, check their tires constantly, and observe road safety regulations to ensure an accident-free festive season in the region.

The Station Master of Sefwi Wiawso GPRTU branch, Mr. Kwasi Manu, expressed much gratitude and commended the joint team MTTD and NRSA for such engagement.

He called on the drivers to adhere to the education and observed road safety regulations to protect lives.
