Mr. Collins Armah has admonished the youth in the country to enter into skill training and TVET programs to stay out of unemployment and become a burden on their families and society.
He stated that the government cannot employ every Ghanaian hence the need to create opportunities for the youth to acquire skills and training to create jobs for themselves.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Technical and Vocational Education Training said the government had initiated TVET programs to assist the youth with the needed training for self-employment.
The expert speaking to Sefwinews.com disclosed that the days when jobs were in abundance are over and the government already has pressing needs with regards to labour working conditions in terms of salary increment to deal with hence the inability to employ more. He, therefore, advised the youth to take advantage of the TVET programs.
Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) is an opportunity given to individuals to learn skills for self-employment. He revealed that under TVET, various programs seek to help train and develop individuals into job owners.
According to him, Ghana TVET Voucher Project offers in-service training to workers who want to upgrade their skills. Also, Ghana Skills Development Fund provides support for individuals to establish themselves.
“The project is aimed at automotive, cosmetology, fashioning and design, consumer electronics, electrical installation, furniture making, block laying and tilling, welder and fabrication, and others. So, the opportunity has come for interested individuals to get involved,” he said.
Mr Collins Armah said the country cannot continue importing basic commodities which can be produced in the country if individuals avail themselves to be trained. He believes the only way to nation building is through industrialization which TVET is key.
He expressed those individuals having jobs would also employ others which will lessen the burden on the government. These jobs, in return, pay taxes which would be used for nation-building.
He ended with a quote saying; “seek ye the kingdom of Skill training and TVET and other things will be added to you”.
