Some water bodies in Bibiani and it’s surrounding communities have been destroyed by illegal mining activities.
This has been very difficult for those residents to get clean water for usage.
The Elected Assembly Members in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North region have called on government to intervene in illegal activities ongoing in their electoral areas.
Some Assembly Members disclosed to the press that the galamsey has destroyed all their water bodies in their respective communities.
Adding the situation has created havoc for residents especially farmers in the catchment areas.
They also find it difficult to get clean water to drink and other domestic purposes.
The Assembly Members mentioning few of the rivers destroyed by the galamseyers were river Soro, Subiri, Chiine and Ankobra.
They also feared that Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipality is becoming a kingpin in galamsey activities.
The Assembly Members appealed to government to task his MMDCEs to fight against illegal mining in all the various constituencies in the region.
Moreover, they also lamented over the rate of development in the municipality. Adding that, president Akuffo-Addo should appoint new MMDCEs to enhance development in MMDAs.
