Boinzan Eluo Festival countdown begins

The Chief of Sefwi Boinzan, who also serves as the Krontihene of the Wiawso Traditional Council, Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, together with his queen mother and the Boinzan Divisional Stool, has announced plans for this year’s Eluo Festival.

Scheduled from August 8 to August 18, the festival promises a vibrant and culturally rich series of events.

This year’s celebration, under the leadership of Nana Ofori Ahenkan II is themed “Creating a Peaceful Atmosphere for the 2024 Election Before, During, and After; The Role of the Traditional Leaders.”

This theme underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering peace and unity in the lead-up to the elections and highlights the crucial role of traditional leaders in maintaining social harmony.

On August 8, the festival will kick off with a Special Gathering of Nananom, featuring the pouring of libation to honour the ancestors. This ceremony will take place at the Boinzan Palace, establishing a spiritual foundation for the events ahead.

In addition to the libation, there will be a free National Health Insurance Scheme registration to provide vital health services to the community.

Following the opening day, August 9, will feature a puberty rite, an important cultural event for the youth. Later that evening, the Western North Youth Association Awards Night will be held at Boinzan Palace, celebrating the achievements and contributions of young people in the region. These events highlight the festival’s dedication to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Health and wellness are central to the festival, with August 12, dedicated to a health screening at Boinzan Palace. This initiative aims to ensure the well-being of the community members.

The following day, August 13, will see the community coming together for a General Community Labour and Clean-Up Exercise, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean and vibrant environment.

On August 14, participants will engage in a health walk, promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. The evening will feature an Awareness Night at Boinzan Roundabout, providing a platform for discussions on important social issues.

These activities are designed to foster a sense of unity and collective responsibility among the residents.

The highlight of August 15 will be the firing of musketry (Dwiratwa), with Vice President Dr. Muhamadu Bawumia as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Scab 4 cultural troop, known for their hit song “Cocoa N’awaa,” will perform at Boinzan Palace, offering a captivating display of cultural heritage that showcases the community’s rich history and customs.

On August 16, Nananom will ride in a palanquin and witness the purification of the black stool, a significant traditional rite. The day will conclude with an Artist Night featuring performances by musicians like Mandem Yopic, Kwasi Amewuga, Kwabena Lyta, and Supa Sandy, adding a modern touch to the celebrations.

This blend of traditional and contemporary elements highlights the festival’s dynamic nature.

The grand durbar on August 17 will bring together Nananom and the people of Sefwi Boinzan Divisional Stool, with former President John Dramani Mahama as the Special Guest of Honour at Boinzan Community Park. It is expected to be a vibrant and memorable gathering.

The festival will conclude on August 18, 2024, with a Thanksgiving Service at Boinzan Community Park. This inter-denominational church service will bring the community together in gratitude and reflection, marking the end of the ten-day celebration.
