Christ Church Harris Mission – Ghana gets New Presiding Bishop

Christ Church Harris Mission – Ghana, popularly known as The Harris Church of Ghana, has officially welcomed a new Presiding Bishop and consecrated nine pastors in a grand ceremony.

The church, founded in 1913 by Prophet William Wade Harris, a Liberian evangelist, continues to uphold its mission of spreading the gospel along the African coast.

On Sunday, February 23, 2025, the church consecrated His Excellency Bishop Augustine Blay Tanoe, the Nzema Area Head, as the new Presiding Bishop.

He now serves as the representative of the World Patriarch of the Christ Church Harris Mission, His Eminence Nanguy Adjaco Faustin.

The solemn and spiritually uplifting ceremony took place at the church’s headquarters in Tafo Nhyiaeso, Kumasi.

During the event, three pastors were ordained, and six catechists were consecrated as reverend ministers and pastors of the church. The occasion was graced by approximately 500 church members and 10 distinguished delegates from Ivory Coast.

Bishop Marcellin Kouadio Bi, who led the delegation from Ivory Coast, delivered an inspiring message to the newly consecrated pastors.

He emphasized the importance of managing their homes in a Christlike manner before extending leadership to the church, referencing 1 Timothy 3:4-6.

Additionally, he urged unity and love within the Harris Church community, stressing respect for all humanity.

In his acceptance speech, the newly installed Presiding Bishop, His Excellency Bishop Augustine Blay Tanoe, expressed profound gratitude to the World President of the church for entrusting him with this significant role.

“I will not take this for granted,” he affirmed. He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the delegation from Côte d’Ivoire, the National Committee President of Ghana, Mr. Akwasi Afrifa, and all church members for their unwavering support and confidence in him.

Bishop Tanoe further highlighted that his primary mandate in this role is to foster unity within Christ Church Harris Mission – Ghana.

Using the analogy of a broom, he emphasized that a single stick is easily breakable, but together, they remain strong and unyielding. “In unity, we will build the church we desire,” he declared, citing Nehemiah 2:18 as a guiding scripture for his mission.

The event marked a significant milestone in the church’s history, reinforcing its commitment to evangelism, leadership, and spiritual growth within the Ghanaian and broader African community.
