Court remands 57-year-old man for defrauding a lady

Bibiani Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Joshua Caleb Abaidoo has remanded one Mr Francis Ampiah for two weeks into police custody for allegedly defrauding a female farmer in Wassa Juabo in the Western Region.

Mr Francis Ampiah took an amount of GHC 100,000.00 from the 65-year-old farmer, Madam Cecilia Gyapong.

Madam Cecilia Gyapong told the court that, Mr. Francis Ampiah explains to her about a new initiative by the government to reclaim abandoned pits by galamseyers thus, Reclamation and Afforestation.

According to her, Mr. Francis Ampiah gave her assurance to help her get a permit and contract in the initiative in 2017.

Madam Cecilia Gyapong further explained that she developed an interest and released the said amount to Mr. Francis Ampiah and after securing the money, he was nowhere to be found.

She added that she had a call from Mr. Francis Ampiah with another strategy and mindset to defraud her again by saying he is now done with the deal and he may need some amount to complete everything.

After hearing this, Madam Cecilia Gyapong pretended to welcome it in good faith so Mr. Francis Ampiah boldly made a follow-up on 05/06/21 between 1:30 pm to go for the requested amount.

After arriving, Madam Cecilia Gyapong together with her two sons managed to get him arrested and handed him over to Wassa Juabo police command.
