Debiso Soccer Lions has lodged a formal protest with the Western Regional Football Association (WRFA) against Elluokrom Agoro Maa FC (Justice FC) following a violent incident that led to the premature termination of their Week 3 Bia West Zone Division Two League game.
The match, played at the Elluokrom Town Park on Sunday, December 29, was abandoned in the 71st minute with the scoreline tied at 0-1.
According to report, the supporters of Agoro Maa FC unlawfully entered the field of play after a legitimate goal was scored by Soccer Lions, prompting the referee to terminate the match.
The report said that the center referee, Richard Obiri, was physically assaulted by the home team supporters, who disputed the goal, claiming the ball was an offside first to Soccer Lions but the referee ignored it and allowed play to continue which led to Soccer Lions goal.
Despite the referee’s decision to award the goal, the supporters allegedly besieged the park, leading to the abrupt end of the match.
However, Debiso Soccer Lions is seeking redress from the WRFA Disciplinary Committee, appealing to be awarded three points and three goals.
The incident has sparked concerns about player and referee safety, and the WRFA is expected to take swift action to address the matter.
