Dr. Bawumia vows free tertiary education for PWDs

The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has unveiled an ambitious plan to offer free tertiary education to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Dr. Bawumia unveiled this commitment during an engagement with the traditional Leaders in Sefwi Wiawso, Regional Capital of the Western North Region, as part of his one-day campaign tour.

Emphasizing the significance of ensuring equal opportunities for all segments of society, he underscored the need for a targeted approach in addressing the educational needs of PWDs.

He emphasized the necessity of extending significant aid to PWDs, citing a pledge to allocate funds from the Scholarship Secretariat and Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to ensure free access to tertiary education, covering both tuition and accommodation.

“While scholarships are currently accessible to diverse categories of individuals, my administration will institute a dedicated scholarship scheme exclusively aimed at empowering Persons with Disabilities. I believe that persons with disabilities, we need to support them a bit more.”

“I have a clear plan for the future. I’m committed to providing increased support for individuals with disabilities. As part of this effort, scholarships will be available to all individuals, with a portion of funds allocated specifically to the scholarship secretariat and the GET Fund.”

“This will ensure that every person with a disability who gains admission to university receives free tertiary education, covering both tuition and accommodation. It’s about ensuring equal opportunities for all,” Dr. Bawumia affirmed.
