Miss Mabel Obeng, a proud daughter of Sefwi Humjibre in the Western North Region of Ghana, is making waves on the international stage as a finalist in the prestigious Miss America Teen contest, held in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Her inspiring journey from a quiet community in Ghana to the bright lights of the United States is a testament to determination, resilience, and the strength of cultural identity.
Born to Rev. Lieutenant Bright A. Obeng, a U.S. Army Chaplain, and Mrs. Vivian Danso, Mabel’s early life was deeply rooted in Sefwi traditions and values.
She began her education at Wireko Memorial Preparatory School in Humjibre and continued at Good News International School in Abeka Lapaz, Accra. At just five years old, she moved to Alaska with her mother to reunite with her father, who was stationed there with the U.S. Army.
As the child of a military family, often referred to as a “military brat,” Mabel has lived in several U.S. states including Alaska, New York, Texas, North Carolina, and currently New Jersey.
These varied experiences have shaped her into a culturally aware, compassionate, and resilient young woman who is deeply connected to both her Ghanaian roots and her American upbringing.
Now standing tall among the finalists of the Miss America Teen contest, Mabel is not just representing New Jersey or the United States—she is representing Sefwi, Ghana, and every young African girl with a dream.
Mabel’s interests include reading, playing tennis, and watching movies. Despite her achievements, she remains humble and passionate about helping others.
Inspired by her background and the challenges she has witnessed, she dreams of becoming a medical doctor to provide care for the weak and vulnerable.
She also hopes to establish a foundation focused on supporting underprivileged children, particularly girls, both in the U.S. and Ghana.
Her story is one of cultural pride and international ambition—a shining example of how dreams nurtured in small towns like Sefwi Humjibre can reach global stages.
Mabel Obeng is truly a shooting star, lighting the way for many, and showing the world that from Sefwi to the USA, excellence knows no boundaries.
