The Anglican Diocese of Wiawso will on Saturday, August 23, 2025, witness the ordination of a Ghanaian-born U.S. Military Officer, Rev. Lieutenant Bright A. Obeng, into the Anglican priesthood in what promises to be a momentous and joyful occasion for the church and the community of Sefwi Humjibre.

The ordination will be officiated by the Rt. Rev. Kwame Kyem-Amponsah, Anglican Bishop of Sefwi Wiawso, and held at St. Marks Anglican Church, Sefwi Humjibre, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A First Mass and Thanksgiving Service will follow on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the same venue from 9:00 a.m.

The soon-to-be-ordained priest, Rev. Lieutenant Bright Another Obeng, currently serves as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army and is widely respected for his commitment to service, discipline, and Christian leadership.

A Life of Service and Faith

Rev. Lt. Obeng hails from Sefwi Humjibre in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

He is married to Mother Vivian Danso, and together they have been blessed with four beautiful daughters. Their eldest, Miss Mabel Obeng, is making her mark as a contestant in the Miss America Teen pageant in New Jersey — a source of pride for the entire family.

His life has been marked by dedication to both his nation and his faith. He completed his secondary education at Asankragwa Senior High School before beginning his professional career with the Ghana National Fire Service, stationed in Bibiani.

While serving in the Fire Service, he took study leave to enroll at the University for Development Studies (UDS). It was during his second year at UDS that he made a life-changing decision to relocate to the United States, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Logistics Specialist.

His strong work ethic and leadership skills earned him promotion to the rank of Non-Commissioned Officer.

Academic and Military Excellence

Determined to advance his education, he pursued studies at Purdue Global University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies.

Feeling a divine call to ministry, he transitioned into the role of a Chaplain Candidate in the U.S. Army, receiving a commission with the rank of Lieutenant.

His theological formation culminated in a Master of Divinity degree from the General Theological Seminary in New York — one of the oldest and most respected institutions in the Anglican Communion.

A Leader with a Christ-Centered Vision

Rev. Lt. Obeng is recognized for embodying servant leadership, military discipline, and a Christ-centered vision for life. Whether in military service, academic pursuits, or ministry, he has consistently placed his unwavering trust in Jesus Christ.

His ordination marks not only a personal milestone but also an inspiring story of how dedication, faith, and perseverance can shape a life of meaningful service to both God and humanity.

The Diocese, family, and friends across Ghana and the United States are expected to gather in Sefwi Humjibre for the celebration, which will blend the solemnity of Anglican tradition with the joy and gratitude of a community proud of one of its own.
