St. Andrews Anglican Church of Bibiani has accused the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II of chasing the church with ‘machomen’ over a plot of land.
However, Ogyeahohoo, who doubles as the President of National House of Chiefs has quashed allegation leveled against him by the church.
Speaking in an interview with Adehye 100.3 Fm in Bibiani, the Paramount Chief told the general public to treat the said information as fake.
He said “Why should I even chase someone with machomen? the truth is that a few days ago, I heard Bibiani Anglican Church were demarcating some parcel of land meant for their new church building,”
“I did not believe it so I went there myself to ask them to end it because the land was not destined for such purpose but they refused,”
“Later on, I heard they have hired some ‘machomen’ to guide them proceed with their activities of which I sent my boys to confirm that,” he told Adehye fm.
Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II said he sent a delegation to the Bishop of Sefwi Wiawso Diocese, Very Rev. Kwame Kyem Ampomah and the Anglican Parish Priest of Bibiani to appear before him, but none of them showed up.
“I sent a delegation to the Bishop and the Parish Priest but none of them honoured my invitation, I reported the case to the police but the church refused to comply with police orders of staying off the land,”
“I want to meet them with the police to have an effective deliberation to find a lasting solution to the problem,”
Meanwhile, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II has stated emphatically that the traditional council will not allow churches or individuals to build in residential areas.
“What I have seen is that majority of the churches want to abuse some powers, these are lands meant for educational purposes and not for commercial use, we won’t allow any church to build at a residential area,”
However, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II is also the first and current President of Western North Regional National House of Chiefs.
