Western North Regional Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Aidoo (Big Aidoo), has strongly criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s ambitious electoral target for the Ashanti Region in the upcoming 2024 elections.
In an exclusive interview with Kwame Kentor Boateng, Michael Aidoo labeled the NPP’s goal of securing 85% of the votes in Ashanti Region as a mere hoax, emphasizing its impracticality given current socio-economic realities in the region.
Michael Aidoo pointedly remarked on the perceived neglect and slow pace of developmental projects under the NPP administration, which he claims has exacerbated hardships for residents and businesses alike in Ashanti Region.
“The people have witnessed firsthand the lackadaisical approach of the NPP government towards bringing meaningful development to our region,” Michael Aidoo asserted.
He highlighted grievances among traders and business entities, attributing their discontent to what he described as insufficient governmental support and policy failures.
Regarding the recent unveiling of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as the running mate to NPP’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Alhaji Mahamud Bawumia, Michael Aidoo expressed skepticism.
He suggested that NAPO’s tenure as Education Minister and his subsequent role in energy policy had failed to significantly impact the Ashanti Region, thus undermining the NPP’s electoral prospects there.
“NAPO’s presence alone does not guarantee electoral success, especially when the administration he represents has failed to deliver on its promises,” Michael Aidoo contended.
In contrast to the NPP’s lofty electoral aspirations, Aidoo outlined the NDC’s pragmatic approach, aiming for a more achievable target of securing 35% of the votes in Ashanti.
He cited the party’s readiness to address local concerns and prioritize meaningful development initiatives that resonate with the region’s residents.
“Our focus is on addressing the real issues facing our people and restoring faith in governance,” Michael Aidoo affirmed.
