In the early hours of Thursday, July 22, angry residents in Bonsu Nkwanta set an alleged armed robber ablaze in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The action followed after three men were caught stealing, however, one of the suspects managed to escape, and one was subsequently beaten and burnt to death.
The last suspect was saved from that fate when the police intervened. The angry residents thronged the premises of the police on Thursday asking for the release of the suspect in custody to be killed.
In an attempt to drum home their anger, the resident pelted the police with stones and vandalized some properties.
The police, therefore, called for reinforcement from the Western North regional Police headquarters.
The suspect, in a hectic nature, was taken from Bonsu Nkwanta police station to Sefwi Wiawso, the regional headquarters, for further investigation and interrogation.
After three weeks of investigation, the Bonsu Nkwanta Police has arrested over 24 people who are suspected of the death of the armed robber, pelted the police with stones and vandalized some properties.
However, the suspected armed robber in police custody was remanded and expected to appear before the court on August 19, 2022.
