The President of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, will lead the baton as Ghana aim to plant five million trees across the country as part of the Green Ghana project.
Green Ghana is an initiative that aims at planting five million trees in a single day across the country. The tree planting exercise is slated for Friday, June 11, 2021.
In April 2021, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, inaugurated a 60-member national planning committee to oversee the exercise.
As part of the programme, the ministry will seek to work out a formula where the trees to be planted will be economic trees. Some of the trees include Wawa, Nim, Rosewood, Shea trees etc.
The project will commence with the planting of trees by His Royal Majesty Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, Richard Ebbah Obeng (Western North Regional Minister), among others at Sefwi Wiawso College of Education on Friday.
Some traditional rulers in the region have suggested that all the communities should hold communal labour on the said date to plant the targeted five (5) million trees.
Besides, the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry will set up a monitoring and evaluation team to surveil the progress of the trees after the planting exercise.
