The Western North Regional Police Command has intercepted two Metro Mass Transit buses carrying over 150 individuals at the Benchemah barrier.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities stopped the buses, with registration numbers GN 5148-22 and GN 5177-22, which were en route from Takoradi to Juaboso on Tuesday, December 3.
Addressing the media in Sefwi Wiawso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Member of Parliament for Juaboso and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to manipulate the electoral process ahead of the upcoming elections.
He alleged that the intercepted buses were part of a broader scheme to cause disruptions in Juaboso Constituency.
According to Akandoh, the interception was a result of NDC efforts to uncover what he described as suspicious activities in the region. “Through our investigations, we were able to intercept these Metro Mass buses,” he stated.
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
He emphasized the need for the police to act decisively and transparently, ensuring that those arrested are held accountable if found guilty of wrongdoing.
The MP expressed concern about the potential consequences of releasing the suspects. “If these thugs are released and find themselves in Juaboso Constituency, we shall see,” Akandoh warned.
He further stressed the importance of fairness and impartiality in handling the case. “This matter goes beyond politics. It is about safeguarding the peace and stability of our constituency and ensuring that the law is applied equally to all,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Western North Regional Police Command has commenced its investigation.
