The Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, has emphasized the need to prioritize development over politics in the Sefwi area.
Addressing the ongoing controversy regarding the naming of a Asawinso hospital, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II clarified his stance and called for unity and peace among his people.
“I wish to make it clear that I have no interest in the current controversy regarding the naming of the hospital. Neither I nor my son have any attachment to the name of the hospital,” Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II stated.
He highlighted that the hospital’s construction commenced before Nana Adu Kwasi Batafoi, the current Chief of Sefwi Kankyiabo, was appointed.
While acknowledging his personal relationship with Nana Adu Kwasi Batafoi, the Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II stressed that this connection does not grant him the authority to act inappropriately or engage in any form of conspiracy.
“As the Paramount Chief, I serve all people, and it is my primary duty to ensure the towns under my jurisdiction develop well,” he added.
He urged the people of Sefwi Wiawso to approach him directly for clarification if they hear any allegations, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and justice.
Reflecting on a recent incident where youth removed the name inscription from the hospital block, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II expressed his concern over the potential for conflict. “What if the other town had retaliated? This could have led to unnecessary conflict,” he said.
While acknowledging that the action was inappropriate, he reassured the youth that he would not punish them but called on the elders to prevent such actions in the future.
“We are all one people under the Sefwi banner, and it is vital we live in peace and harmony, focusing on development and leaving politics aside. While everyone has their political affiliations, we must prioritize the development of our communities,” Katakyie chief urged.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II also announced the official name of the hospital, following consultations with the Ghana Health Service.
“After consultation with the Ghana Health Service, the ultimate name for the hospital is now: SEFWI ASAWINSO GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL.”
Addressing the Sefwi Asawinso Development Association (SADA), the chief extended his full support to the organization and advised its members to keep politics out of their noble mission.
He encouraged them to champion development, leveraging the presence of reverend ministers and other dignitaries within their ranks. “Make time to visit me for blessings and further guidance,” he advised.
The Sefwi Wiawso Paramount Chief called for peace, unity, and a collective focus on the development of the Sefwi area, urging all to “go in peace, and make me proud.”
