The Western North Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned what it describes as a โmalicious disinformation campaignโ being waged by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undermine the progress of the region and discredit government officials.
Addressing the media at a press conference held at the partyโs regional office in Sefwi Dwenase on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Regional Chairman of the party, Michael Aidoo, accused the NPP of peddling lies, fake stories, and politically motivated allegations through discredited social media accounts and fake news portals.
โThese are not mere political tactics; they are acts of sabotage aimed at distracting hardworking public officials and eroding public trust in this government,โ Big Aidoo stated.
Citing specific examples, he debunked recent allegations leveled against the Western North Regional Minister, Willbert Petty Brentum, who was falsely accused of engaging in illegal mining (galamsey).
Michael Aidoo noted that an independent investigation had confirmed the claims to be completely untrue and politically motivated.
Another case involved a viral video attempting to link Suaman District Chief Executive, Vasco Obour, to galamsey activities using government-procured equipment intended for district road works.
Big Aidoo dismissed the video as another product of what he called the โNPPโs propaganda machinery,โ describing it as deceptive and manufactured.
โThese acts are not just unpatrioticโthey are dangerous to democratic governance and regional stability,โ he said, accusing the NPP of seeking to derail development efforts because they have โnothing to offer Ghanaians.โ
He reassured the people of Western North that the NDC government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to delivering on its promises.
โThe Regional Minister, MMDCEs, and all government appointees are working with integrity and dedication. We will not be distracted by propaganda. We will continue to build roads, create jobs, enhance education, and fight illegal mining in a fair and structured way,โ Big Aidoo emphasized.
In a strong warning to the NPP, the NDC Regional Chairman urged the opposition to cease what he described as anti-government and anti-development schemes or face legal, political, and civic resistance.
โThe Western North Region is united. We are moving forward, and no amount of sabotage will stop that. The people of this region are discerningโwe will not fall prey to cheap propaganda,โ he declared.
He concluded by urging residents to stay vigilant and hopeful, expressing gratitude for their continued support and pledging that the NDC will remain focused, united, and committed to delivering meaningful progress.
