It’s not our mandate to nominate MCE or DCE- WN Vetting Committee clarifies

Western North Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Aidoo, has clarified the role of the Western North MMDCEs Vetting Committee, which he chairs.

According to him, the committee’s mandate is not to select the Municipal or District Chief Executives, but rather to shortlist three candidates from each municipal or district that excel during the oral interview.

The committee then forwards the names of the shortlisted candidates to the President, who will subsequently set up a committee to nominate one person from each list to become a DCE or MCE.

Michael Aidoo emphasized that the ultimate decision lies with the President, and not with the vetting committee.

The vetting process for the positions of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Western North Region took place on January 13 and 14 at the Rockyeast Event Centre in Sefwi Wiawso. Out of 77 applicants, only 68 attended the vetting.

The Bibiani Anwiaso Bekwai Municipality had the highest number of applicants, with 17 candidates.

Michael Aidoo commended all the candidates for their impressive performance during the interviews, stating that it was challenging for the committee to shortlist only three candidates.

He also assured that the NDC administration will prioritize women’s participation, as they aim to have more women serving in their administration.

The vetting committee consisted of notable members, including: Chairman: Michael Aidoo, Representative of MPs Caucus: Sampson Ahi, Member of Parliament for Bodi constituency, Regional Secretary: George Ofori, Representative of Council of Elders: Nana Adewiah, former Bia East Constituency Chairman and Constituency Executives Members: Various representatives from the region.

Michael Aidoo urged all candidates to accept the results, even if they are not shortlisted.

He expressed confidence that Ghanaians will witness a significant difference between the MMDCEs under John Mahama’s administration and those under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
