Ghanaโs all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has revealed his strong desire to face Uruguay once more on the football field.
Gyanโs lingering emotions toward Uruguay stem from the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash, where he famously missed a last-minute penalty that could have made Ghana the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
โIf thereโs one match I wish I could play again, it would definitely be against Uruguay,โ Gyan stated. โThe most emotional moment for me wasnโt the missed penalty, but hearing the final whistle after we lost the penalty shootout,โ he reflected.
Gyan retired from international football in 2019, finishing with a record 51 goals for Ghana. He officially ended his remarkable 20-year career in 2023, during which he earned numerous accolades and recognition.
Although Ghana got another shot at Uruguay during the 2022 World Cup, they suffered a 2-0 defeat. Gyanโs continued longing for a rematch highlights how deeply the 2010 encounter influenced his football journey.
