An intense community-led search operation is underway at Diaso in the Central Region following a tragic incident in which illegal miners got trapped in a collapsed galamsey pit on Saturday afternoon (May 24, 2025).
According to local sources, the pit caved in while the unidentified miners were working, prompting an urgent rescue effort involving residents and local authorities.
More than 24 hours after the incident, the miners’ bodies have yet to be recovered, and hope continues to dwindle as the search persists.
The incident highlights the persistent dangers associated with illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, which continues to pose serious safety and environmental challenges across parts of Ghana.
Efforts are still ongoing as community members, volunteers, and rescue teams dig through the debris in hopes of finding the missing miners.
