The Ghana School Feeding Secretariat has held a regional orientation programme for newly engaged caterers in the Western North Region.
The event took place on Monday, August 18, 2025, in Sefwi Dwenase and brought together caterers from all three municipalities and six districts of the region.
The orientation was aimed at equipping caterers with the necessary skills and knowledge to improve the quality of service delivery under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).
The training placed strong emphasis on meal planning, food safety, and programme implementation, which are considered key pillars in ensuring that pupils across beneficiary schools receive healthy and nutritious meals daily.

In her address, the Western North Regional Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, Madam Comfort Nyarko, stressed that caterers are central to the effective implementation of the initiative.
She assured participants of the Secretariat’s commitment to providing regular monitoring, supervision, and timely responses to their concerns in order to enhance efficiency.
“As the Regional Coordinator, I am excited to work with you to provide nutritious meals to our schoolchildren. Your role as caterers is crucial in achieving the programme’s objectives, which are to improve school enrollment, attendance, and retention, while at the same time promoting local economic development,” Madam Nyarko said.
She encouraged the caterers to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and professionalism in their operations, stressing that the health and wellbeing of pupils must remain their top priority.
According to her, the quality of meals served has a direct impact on the physical and mental development of children, and therefore caterers must take their responsibilities seriously.
In the Western North Region, the programme has benefited thousands of pupils across public basic schools, contributing to a steady rise in enrollment figures.

Participants at the orientation expressed appreciation to the Secretariat for the initiative, describing the training as timely and relevant to their work.
They pledged to apply the knowledge acquired to improve the quality and safety of meals delivered in schools.
