The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has returned from a trip abroad.
His Majesty embarked on a break from official duties last month after overseeing year-long anniversary celebrations in 2024.
Upon arrival at Prempeh I International Airport on April 23, the King was welcomed by traditional authorities, including Nana Otuo Sereboe II, Juabenhene and Akyeamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu, Asafohene.
Other officials included Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, the Mayor of Kumasi, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former MP for Manhyia South Constituency, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjo, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and Brigadier General Matthew Opoku, GOC of the Central Command.
His first port of call was the Palace of Nana Konadu Yiadom II, Asantehemaa- his traditional mother.
There, His Majesty presented himself and exchanged pleasantries in accordance with tradition.
Otumfuo returns invigorated for yet another busy year filled with official engagements.
The Occupant of the Golden Stool will immediately resume his mediation role over the lingering Bawku chieftaincy dispute.
A statement issued by the Palace on April 15 read in part, “His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis as agreed with both parties from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi.”
He is also scheduled for a series of activities including the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation 25th Anniversary fundraising and Millenium Excellence Awards.
Also pending are several traditional disputes before both the Kumasi Traditional Council and the Asanteman Council, which the Monarch chairs.
Paramount among all the activities is the highly anticipated Odwira Festival set to begin at the end of October.
