In the heart of Sefwi Elluokrom in the Western North Region stands a building that embodies both hope and heartbreak, our Community Police Station, which was meant to serve as a symbol of safety, authority, and protection for the people.
Over fifteen years ago, the good people of Sefwi Elluokrom did what few communities dare to do. We took it upon ourselves to build this facility through communal labour, levies, and personal sacrifice, demonstrating our commitment to peace and development.
Masons carefully laid the blocks, carpenters fixed the roof with precision, and painters gave it the blue and white or yellow and black colours of the Ghana Police Service to reflect its intended purpose.
It was our contribution to peace and stability, and a clear investment in the security of our growing community. We strongly believed that if we provided the structure, the state would respond by providing the necessary personnel and services to make it fully operational.
Yet, for over 15 years, not a single officer has been formally posted to the station to bring it to life. No ribbon has ever been cut to mark its commissioning, and no official activity has taken place within those walls.
No case has been recorded, no complaints have been received, and the station has never experienced the daily routines of policing, not even a simple lunch break, let alone an active night patrol to protect the community.
Today, April 21, 2026, the building continues to age without purpose, gradually losing the value and pride it once held in the eyes of the people.
The fresh paint we once admired has faded significantly, louvre blades now hang loosely, and the cell that was designed to hold suspects has unfortunately become a shelter for bats and other unwanted occupants.
Each time we pass by this structure, we are painfully reminded that community effort alone cannot drive development when the system fails to meet us halfway and fulfill its responsibilities.
The irony of the situation is deeply troubling. Elluokrom is not a small or inactive settlement, but a fast-growing town with several major businesses and institutions contributing to the local economy.
The town can proudly boast of one of the biggest pure water factories, a huge ultra-modern poultry farm unmatched in the entire Western North Region, a functioning radio station, health centres, pharmacies, a busy market, banking services, and over 17 cocoa buying companies that support the livelihoods of many residents.
Farmers, traders, teachers, students, and business owners all depend on a reliable system of law and order to carry out their daily activities with confidence and peace of mind.
The police station was never intended to stand idle as a monument of neglect, but rather to operate as a fully functional facility serving the needs of the people.
Its rooms remain unused but ready, the complaint counter is still waiting to receive the concerns of citizens, the charge office desk is prepared but idle, and above all, the people of Elluokrom continue to wait patiently for action.
We respectfully call on the Ghana Police Service, the Bia West District Chief Executive, the Bia West Member of Parliament, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Western North Regional Coordinating Council to take immediate steps to commission and staff the Sefwi Elluokrom Police Station so it can finally serve its purpose.
We urge the authorities to deploy even three or four officers to begin operations, establish a contact line for emergencies, and ensure that the facility becomes accessible to the people. Let the key turn in that padlock for the very first time, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for security in the community.
We have fulfilled our part of the social contract by building the structure with our own resources and determination. What we now seek is a partnership that will transform this building into a true home for law, order, and protection for all.
Until that happens, the structure will remain what it is today, a silent and unopened promise standing in the heart of our town, constantly reminding us of what could have been.
