Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has made a firm declaration not to renew the existing contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited if the current wage of GHยข250 for sanitation workers remains unchanged.

In a strongly worded Facebook post on Friday, 25 April, Basintale criticised the current terms of engagement, describing them as exploitative and unjust to the Ghanaian youth.

His comments follow growing public pressure, particularly from investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has long campaigned against the contractโ€™s renewal, citing poor treatment of workers and breach of contract terms.

Echoing similar sentiments, Basintale asserted that the present arrangement is a โ€œrip-offโ€ of poor Ghanaians and cannot be allowed to continue under the current administration.

โ€œAll my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the youth and people of Ghana,โ€ Basintale wrote.

โ€œI promise on my honour as I stand by the grave of my late DAD, NOT to RENEW the contract in its CURRENT STATE or FORM. It is EVIL for the previous government to have committed to this and I SHALL STOP IT,โ€ he declared, vowing to ensure workers are paid satisfactorily under President Mahamaโ€™s leadership.

He further expressed personal concern over the plight of sanitation workers, stating, โ€œIf my mother, brother, or sister were a Zoomlion worker, I wouldnโ€™t be happy with any of them taking GHยข250 as salary.โ€

Mr Basintale invited the public to join him live on Facebook at 8 pm to share their thoughts and discuss the way forward regarding the contentious contract.

All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the Youth and people of Ghana.

For 7years, 9 months, the NPP renewed the Zoomlion contract in its current state paying the Ghanaian Youth/worker Ghc250.

H.E John Dramani Mahama came to review, reset and bring Ghana back on track.

This includes ensuring that every worker is paid satisfactorily for the work done.

I promise on my honor as i stand by the grave of my late DAD, NOT to RENEW the contract in its CURRENT STATE or FORM.

It is EVIL for the Previous government to have committed to this and I SHALL STOP IT.

My brothers and sisters, On December 7th, 2024, Change came and Change must Happen.

If my mother/Brother/Sister were a Zoomlion worker, I won’t be happy with either of them taking Ghc250 as Salary and as such I can’t be happy with you, your mother, father, brother or sister taking same.

I Shall be live tonight at 8pm here on Facebook to take reviews, comments and the way Forward.

May God bless us all.
