The arrest, which took place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, forms part of a broader operation aimed at curbing the growing threat of illegal mining in the region.

The suspects have been identified as Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu.

They were caught actively mining along the riverbank, which has seen increased degradation in recent months due to such unlawful operations.

In the operation, the Police retrieved ten (10) Changfang mining machines, two (2) unregistered tricycles—PNE and Apsonic—and a motorbike with registration numbers M-24-NR 6010 and M-23-UW 4413.

The Upper West Regional Police Command, in a statement, reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating illegal mining activities and safeguarding the environment.

The Command further urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities that threaten natural resources and community well-being.
