The administration of President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie from his position as the Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA).

While the announcement of his removal has been confirmed, the specific reasons behind the President’s decision remain unclear.

Prof. Dzakadzie’s appointment as the head of the curriculum assessment body was made by the previous administration under President Akufo-Addo on June 24, 2024.

His appointment, according to a statement at the time, was in accordance with the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023).

Prior to leading NaCCA, Prof. Dzakadzie held prominent roles within the education sector, including Deputy Director General for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Director for Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education.

He is recognized as an expert in educational outcome assessment, testing, measurement, evaluation, research, and statistics, boasting an extensive academic background and teaching experience across various levels of education.

Despite his qualifications and relatively recent appointment, the Mahama administration has opted to terminate his tenure.

As of the time of this report, no official statement has been released by the President’s office or the Ministry of Education detailing the reasons for Prof. Dzakadzie’s dismissal.
