President John Dramani Mahama has announced the launch of a bold initiative to reduce graduate unemployment in the country through the Graduates in Corporate Support (GRICS) programme, under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
Speaking at the Jubilee House during his 120-day progress update on the government’s Social Contract with Ghanaians, President Mahama disclosed that the GRICS programme will provide employment opportunities for 20,000 graduates, who will be attached to firms operating on a 24-hour basis.
“We’re attaching 20,000 graduates to firms operating 24 hours a day,” the President said. “Ghana cannot transform its economy by doing business eight hours a day.”
He further revealed that YEA is also working in collaboration with the nation’s security agencies to train and deploy 23,000 recruits to provide protection and support to these 24-hour businesses across the country.
The President emphasized that this initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to job creation, economic expansion, and private sector empowerment.
“In fulfilment of our 120-day commitment, we are pursuing new avenues of job creation, expanding employment opportunities—particularly for young graduates—and empowering the private sector as the key driver of sustainable job creation,” he stated.
The GRICS programme forms part of President Mahama’s broader vision to implement a 24-hour economy, aimed at maximizing productivity, increasing employment, and accelerating Ghana’s economic transformation.
