The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, popularly known as Chairman Buga Buga, has expressed his readiness to serve the party in a higher capacity as he sets his sights on the position of First National Vice Chairman.
Speaking exclusively to Sefwinews, Alhaji Masawudu Osman said his ambition is driven by his desire to strengthen the party’s structures, promote unity, and create hope and opportunities for young people within the NPP.
According to him, the party’s progress depends on committed leaders who are willing to serve beyond personal interests and work collectively towards achieving victory.
He emphasised the importance of unity within the NPP, recalling how party leaders chose reconciliation and togetherness in handling internal matters to ensure peace and cohesion.
“We have supported him, given him moral support, and engaged the National leadership and the NEC. We spoke to them and apologized on behalf of our colleagues. Today, he is the Acting National Chairman because we chose unity and togetherness. We wanted peace and cohesion to prevail,” Alhaji Masawudu Osman told Sefwinews.
He noted that the decision to prioritise unity demonstrated the values he continues to promote at the party’s national headquarters, adding that the NPP can only succeed when members work together despite their differences.
Touching on his vision for the party, Alhaji Masawudu said youth empowerment remains one of his major priorities, stressing that young people must have confidence that the NPP is committed to creating opportunities for them.
He cited programmes such as the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), Youth Employment initiatives, and opportunities created through institutions including the National Health Insurance Authority and Ghana Card offices as evidence of the party’s commitment to youth development.
“The youth must know that whenever the NPP is in government, opportunities are created for them. The party believes in empowering young people and giving them the chance to lead,” he stated.
The NPP Third National Vice Chairman also highlighted the party’s record of promoting inclusiveness, using his own political journey as an example.
He said his rise from Bole in the Northern Region to becoming a national executive member of the party proves that the NPP provides opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.
“I come from Bole in the Northern Region, yet today I serve as the National Third Vice Chairman of the party. The NPP has shown that anyone, regardless of their background, can rise to leadership positions,” he added.
Alhaji Masawudu further urged aspirants contesting in the party’s internal elections to conduct clean campaigns focused on ideas and respect rather than insults and personal attacks.
He cautioned that unnecessary divisions created during campaigns could affect the party’s unity and provide opportunities for opponents to exploit internal disagreements.
He appealed to delegates, including constituency and regional executives, Council of Elders members, task force leaders and supporters in the diaspora, to elect leaders who are genuinely committed to building the party rather than individuals seeking government appointments.
According to him, the NPP needs national executives who will remain dedicated to strengthening the party’s structures before, during and after elections.
Alhaji Osman Masawudu stressed that his interest in the First National Vice Chairman position is based on service and commitment to the party.
“I am not seeking a ministerial appointment, a CEO position or any government office. My objective is to serve the party, work at the national level, strengthen our structures and contribute to achieving victory for the NPP,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the party’s upcoming elections would be peaceful and urged members to remain united as the NPP prepares for future electoral battles.
